Pinch valves are used for agricultural plant protection

DN 20 pinch valves from the VM series from AKO Armaturen are installed in field sprayers in the factory by the manufacturer to control the spraying of pesticides onto fields. The AKO valves control the flow of chemicals within the field sprayers.

Pinch valves from AKO Armaturen are used in a wide range of agricultural machines in which it is necessary to control the flow of liquids. Due to their simple design, reliable operation and easy and quick maintenance, the pinch valves from AKO Armaturen offer some advantages over alternative types of valves.

A farmer who has been successfully using machines fitted with pinch valves from AKO Armaturen for more than 13 years says that the valves are a real “fit & forget” solution. Industrial components are described as “fit & forget” – as the name suggests – because it is possible to forget about them once they have been installed or fitted and they do not cause any problems for years, require no maintenance and operate reliably.

This is demonstrated by the average service life of the rubber sleeve made out of abrasion-resistant natural rubber that is installed inside the pinch valve. The farmer only needs to replace the sleeve due to wear about every 5 years and can easily carry out this task himself. The process does not require any special knowledge or special tools. Replacing the sleeves in pinch valves from the VM series is easily carried out by unscrewing the two end covers and pushing out the sleeve. The new sleeve is then simply pushed into the housing (a special installation paste reduces any friction and makes it easier to insert the sleeve), the end covers are screwed back in place and the valve can be reinstalled.

Valves from the VM series are now a discontinued model and have been superseded by valves from the replacement VMC or VMP series. These valves have a more compact design, an almost elliptical-shaped housing to optimise the consumption of compressed air and a wide range of connection options.

Requirements:

  • Resistant to plant protection agents.
  • Reliable operation even after many years.

Goals achieved:

  • The sleeves made out of abrasion-resistant natural rubber that are installed in the pinch valves are resistant to the plant protection agents used.
  • A “fit & forget solution” – service lives without the need for maintenance of more than five years have been achieved for similar applications.
